Why Vote for Michelle?

Politics Out

The role of Trustee is nonpartisan and there should be no room at the board table for politics or partisan bickering. Michelle is committed to keeping politics out and keeping student success front and center.

As Trustee, Michelle will:

  • Put students first in every decision she makes as Trustee and that starts with making sure we are attracting and retaining top-tier teachers
  • Represent ALL members of the community regardless of differing views
  • Base her decisions on relevant research, local data and budget realities

Partnership In

The success of students and the district as a whole depends on the quality of its relationships. A healthy, supportive community where people feel valued and heard creates a foundation of trust that directly impacts the quality of teaching, student attendance, mental health, academic performance, and the overall success of students. In addition, working together as a school community and as a broader community is the key to the district’s long-term success. Michelle will bring her deep community connections, her strong listening skills, her curiosity and her open-mindedness to the board table to support a healthy school community culture and to move the community forward together.

As Trustee, Michelle will:

  • Ensure the district is meeting its goal of strengthening lines of communication among teachers, parents, students, staff, and the broader community with an eye on providing students with the support and tools they need to be successful in our schools and beyond.
  • Actively listen to, and work with, anyone seeking to improve our schools
  • Work to foster collaboration between the district and the broader community in an effort to deliver solutions to our district’s problems, including those most vexing like enrollment decline and the accompanying revenue loss. In the same way, she will work with others to position GPPSS favorably for future generations.
  • Let the Superintendent do his job as the district’s manager, respect his expertise as the board’s professional adviser, and support him as the district’s chief executive officer responsible for turning the Strategic Plan into daily practice.

Potential Unlocked

A Trustee’s job is to work with other board members to look at the district’s big picture, set policies and make budget decisions to support student and district long-term success, and to hold the Superintendent accountable for managing the district and implementing the Strategic Plan.

As Trustee, Michelle will:

  • Ensure the district is prioritizing the proper gathering, use, and communication of relevant data to support students and guide decisionmaking. This is absolutely key to student success, efficient use of our district’s resources, and positively positioning the district for future generations.
  • Explore new programming possibilities that will enhance educational opportunities for our students, garner positive attention for the district, attract renewed interest from local families and bring newcomers to our community. This positive buzz and newfound excitement will help us put "butts in seats" thereby increasing operating revenue and injecting a sense of hope for a brighter future for our students, district and community.
  • Make decisions that will put safety and security at the forefront. The data is clear that students get the most from their learning environment when they feel safe and secure. Michelle has been a long-time advocate for employing best practices to prevent gun violence in schools. But feeling safe and secure extends well beyond physical safety. It means knowing you are valued, supported and that you belong. Michelle is committed to the district maximizing opportunities for student self-discovery, providing appropriate academic breadth and rigor, fostering healthy relationships among students, teachers, parents and staff and supporting mental health initiatives. In short, students thrive when they feel safe, know who they are, have a strong sense of self-worth and know they belong!
